A production commissioned by le Ballet du Capitole created by Honji wang and Sébastien Ramirez - Picasso and Dance , Toiles-Etoiles based on the stage curtain - l’Après-midi d’un faune - designed by Pablo Picasso. 1962.

Toiles Etoiles by le Ballet du Capitole. L’Après-midi d’un faune by Honji Wang and Sébastien Ramirez, with Solène Monnereau, Kayo Nakazato, Simon Catonnet et Minoru Kaneko, Rouslan Savdenov the Minotaure) et Alexandre De Oliveira Ferreira (manipulation of the curtain).

« To open 2022, the Ballet du Capitole continued its work around Pablo Picasso with an evening of contemporary creations, mixing aesthetics and encounters of gesture. For each choreographer (Cayetano Soto, the duo Wang/Ramirez and Antonio Najarro), the starting point was the same: a stage curtain designed by Pablo Picasso, and it was up to them to extrapolate as they wished. Three pieces from the Ballets Russes, for which Picasso collaborated so much, are included. But seeing the show through the prism of 'Re-reading the Ballets Russes' is not necessarily the right one and could lead to disappointment. The idea is rather to imagine the canvases coming to life, and how painting, a frozen art, inspires dance, an art in movement.

The hip-hop duo Honji Wang and Sébastien Ramirez illustrates this approach well with their creation L'Après-midi d'un Faune. Wang/Ramirez do not want to make the four artists on stage dance in their own way, but to mix their vision of dance with the qualities of their performers. The result is a contemporary dance that is nervous, precise and punchy, playing on the lines of these classical artists while mixing them with a more swaying upper body, carried with presence by Solène Monnereau, Kayo Nakazato, Simon Catonnet and Minoru Kaneko.

This Afternoon of a Faun is a spellbinding moment, taking us into another universe, offering a true choreographic encounter. »
